Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals establishing or carrying on business as a sole trader or contractor, as well as those supporting the establishment of a new venture as part of a larger organisation. These individuals apply a broad range of competencies in varied contexts, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. They may provide technical advice and support to a small team.

Outcome

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts and environments. They apply solutions to a defined range of problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources in relation to a variety of tasks. They may provide guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others. This qualification is designed to reflect the role of contract bookkeepers and employees performing in the role of bookkeeper for organizations and who perform duties such as:

• establishing and maintaining accounting systems
• assisting with Business Activity Statements and other office taxes
• payroll
• developing management systems for organisation

Requirement

• Be at least 18 years of age and have completed the equivalent of Year 12.
• Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
• Have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old).  English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • Educated for 5 years in an English speaking country; or
  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test
• *Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted.  Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0

Assessment Method

Assessments may include short written knowledge tests, discussions and oral communication demonstrations, case study exercises, written reports, web-based research and reports, final projects, and final written exams. To perform at your best, you will probably need to work on the assessments outside of class time.

Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into the   Diploma of Leadership and Management, Diploma of Human Resources Management, Diploma of Project Management, etc.

Employment Pathways

The qualification is designed for both those looking to launch a small business venture, and new small business owners who want to develop their skills for growth. Through the course you’ll also build “real world” skills to establish business networks, and apply critical thinking skills to common challenges in establishing a viable business.
