Overview

The CHCSS00142 Mediation Skill Set is designed to equip individuals with the specialised knowledge and high-level practical skills necessary to facilitate formal mediation processes in various community and workplace settings. This program focuses on guiding parties toward resolution through structured dialogue, interest-based negotiation, and collaborative problem-solving within diverse community, legal, and workplace contexts. 

Outcome

By engaging with this skill set, students develop a comprehensive foundation in the mediation lifecycle, from initial intake and safety screening to the facilitation of joint sessions and the consolidation of durable agreements. 

Requirement

Australian City International College (ACIC) has the following entry requirements: 

Students must:  

• be at least 18 years of age 

• have completed Year 12 or equivalent, or demonstrated relevant vocational experience 

• demonstrate foundational understanding of cultural and workplace communication practices relevant to mediation 

• exhibit emotional maturity, impartiality, and ethical behaviour consistent with mediation practice 

• demonstrate capacity to manage sensitive or complex interpersonal situations 

• show ability to engage in conflict resolution processes and applying structured communication frameworks 

• participate in a pre-course entry interview/discussion to assess suitability, expectations and individual student needs 

• Undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) Test to achieve a satisfactory competency level (equivalent to ACSF level 3-4**) during induction session prior to course commencement ***.  

** This level indicates the ability to work independently in complex and unfamiliar contexts, interpret and produce detailed and structured information, communicate effectively using nuanced language, and solve multi-step problems using analytical reasoning and data interpretation.

*** Students may be exempt from LLND testing if they provide verified documentation demonstrating ACSF Exit level 3 or above in Reading and Numeracy or hold Skill Sets equivalent to AQF level 4 or above. 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Alternatively, students may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning by submitting a comprehensive portfolio of evidence including resumes, professional references, and previous Skill Sets, which is evaluated by a qualified assessor to determine competency alignment with ACIC’s Student Enrolment and Completion, and Training and Assessment policies. 

Credit

Students who provide verified Statement of Attainment or Certificate with Statement of Results showing successful completion of equivalent unit/s of competency will have credit applied directly to their Training Plan following document verification.
